Falcons prioritizing mediocrityĀ
šļøWhat do we need to see in May?
Ā
1: To the left to the left, everything we had was going down the left. Points for trying, but nothing really threatening came of it. Grant it we are missing Xande but even with him in the XI we havenāt been able to create any attacking threats and that continues to be the case.Ā
2: *In the voice of Paula Cole* Where is our set piece threat? Why canāt we score a goal? Where have all our free kicks gone? Seriously, we use to be somewhat productive from free kicks and corners and now we get very little from either.Ā
3: We still look incredibly shaky on dead ball situations and resets in play. Literally with any stoppage in play we just donāt look ready when play resumes and the scouting report is out on that aspect of this team because weāre seeing more and more teams take free kicks and throw ins quickly.Ā
4: We looked really good in the last 20 minutes. If we could just figure out the other 70 we might really have something. It continues to be a total mystery as to why we cannot play with urgency and attacking dynamism over the course of an entire 90 minutes. Clearly we can do it in moments. We just should be able to replicate that over an entire match.Ā
5: We canāt count on our counter press. We donāt look in sync at all when we try to win the ball back. The players just look confused as to what the trigger for the press is. Credit to Slisz and also Dax, who we need to see more of FWIW, for individual efforts but it has to be more about the collective than one or two players.Ā

1: In recognition of 4/20 day Cincy played really high and we were not ready for it. At times it felt like we were playing NYRB and we all know how that goes. Usually we can raise our level to make our opponent uncomfortable. Today we couldnāt raise ours to meet theirs.Ā
2: The energy that Saba brings to EVERY play is DEEPLY appreciated but if he could just dial it back a touch on his final pass, I think with a little more finesse and a little less power heād have even more end product.Ā
3: Once again we took far too long to get going. Today it took us an entire half. Teams are figuring out that we donāt seem to be switched on at the start.Ā Itās a simple thing & itās killing us.
4: In the high five we talked about how there could be some communication errors to exploit on Cincyās back line, there werenāt. They looked like how we have looked up until now. They deserve a lot of credit.Ā
5: We talked last week about how we canāt let conceding soft goals become the story this season. Tonight we wrote another chapter. We have to flip this script IMMEDIATELY.

1: The first half felt like we were pointing a gun at Philly, but both teams knew it wasĀ unloaded. As expected we lacked a finishing threat and we played like it in the final third. In the second we loaded it and found some different weapons.Ā
2: All around, despite the result, we still looked solid defensively considering the absences. Weāre still blocking shots & most importantly communicating and staying organized as a result. Depth players couldāve REALLY done with a win here though.
3: It was all yellow for Philly in the first half. Good. Happy to see refs dishing out the cards when teams play Curtain ball as it were. Martinez still shouldāve been out on a 2nd for kicking the ball away. Yellow is yellow.Ā
4: We have been missing the dynamic and creative Thiago we have grown accustomed to. He showed up in the 2nd half. He stopped drifting out wide & got involved centrally in space. We have depth now so weāre not asking him to put the team on his back but he needs to keep playing like he did today in the 2nd half.Ā
5: Those were two of the most Philly goals we will ever see. Both were against the run of play, both wereā¦dubious in nature. On the first, the ball appeared to go out of play in the build up and the second was off a foul throw. They got under our skin, as they do, and got the brief momentum they needed to flip the game.

šJason Longshore's double duty
šNatural disasters, other than Chelsea
1: Considering how well weāve been performing defensively, itās really frustrating to give up a goal in that manner. The penalty is soft but the opportunity comes from our own error.Ā
2: Both teams created as many opportunities for the other as they did for themselves. NYC got a little fortunate with their goal. We provided everything but the finish for the majority of the match.Ā
3: We were missing GGās frame to help get it on frame. On top of being a great goal scorer, his strength and hold up play has also been key. Heās also our best aerial threat weāve maybe ever had and we missed that.Ā
4: Heās big, heās bald he can f-ing do it all. Itās been a little while since weāve had Brad be so key both defensively and offensively. Heās done all thatās been asked of him and then some.Ā
5: Were Riosā and Firmino's legs broken? Didnāt agree with Etienne at the 9. He did have his opportunity to win not only the game but possibly more minutes, but for some reason he heads it away from goal instead of directly into net. He continues to be what heās been.

5Aside Women Footie Forum Pt1
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
On this week's 5Aside we're talking the history and significance of the She Believe's Cup as and the history and growth of the women's game across the globe.
Huge thank you to Angel Whitworth (FootieMob Board Member and Capo) and Shannon Celeste (All Stripes Board Member) for joining the show and sharing their perspectives, knowledge and experiences.
Atlanta, the USA and really the whole world are in an important and unprecedented moment in the growth of the women's game. It's incredible to see how much progress has been made but there is still so much more work to do. Progress doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes work, and sacrifice and it's important for all of us to continue to show and up support all of these incredible women across the sporting landscape. This is bigger than football.Ā

1: The first half looked like a match after an intl break. TBF a lot of the matches this weekend did. Attacking ideas were there, we just werenāt quite incisive enough for most of the first 45. There was more opportunity for us to counter off of their direct play.
2: All that being said, ball retention in the opposition half was very good. All Chicago was interested in was counters and direct balls. Ironically enough two of our goals came off direct play. We continue to score in a variety of ways.Ā
3: Weāve got a back up to back up our back up plan. Jamal is a proper back up striker. Thatās massive for us given some of the injury problems GG has and his international duty. Great finisher with great instincts.Ā
4: This was the game Noah Cobb needed and he did not put a foot wrong. We were pretty dominant throughout but he had just enough to do. Heās had really tough matches so this should be a confidence builder for him.Ā
5: Somehow, someway, weāve got to replicate these home performances on the road. The Benz is becoming a fortress again. Great. Home points are not enough. Hopefully we can get three at whatever field NYCFC find to play on next week.Ā

1: We looked really competent in the first 30 minutes. We played with a lot of energy and the composure match. Considering all the absences, our defensive composure was something to be pleased with. Unfortunately it all fell apart after the first goal.Ā
2: Both teams' identities were on full display. We continued to play out the back 100% of the time and Toronto relied on their counter pressure and turning us over, which to be fair we greatly aided them in. They executed their game perfectly and we failed ours miserably.Ā
3: As expected, our attack was lacking. Firmino, the magic man, was the invisible man tonight. Saba was really the only player finding himself in dangerous positions until Rios and Mosquera entered. Wouldāve preferred a triple sub made with Xande.Ā
4: On a couple positive attacking notes, Brooksā service into the box is on another level this year. It was frustrating to see us not utilize the wings more when clearly nothing was happening centrally via combination and link up play. Mosquera still looks dangerous and Rios looked like he will be valuable.Ā
5: Itās not going to show on the player ratings because of the two goals conceded but Brad still looks very good. He made some great saves tonight and the loss isnāt on him.
