🖐️Takes 🥅All our 9’s have scored
🤕Injuries across ATL
🤢 Philly ball
➰ VAR loophole 😉Thank you Amy Marie for the title
1: The first half felt like we were pointing a gun at Philly, but both teams knew it was unloaded. As expected we lacked a finishing threat and we played like it in the final third. In the second we loaded it and found some different weapons.
2: All around, despite the result, we still looked solid defensively considering the absences. We’re still blocking shots & most importantly communicating and staying organized as a result. Depth players could’ve REALLY done with a win here though.
3: It was all yellow for Philly in the first half. Good. Happy to see refs dishing out the cards when teams play Curtain ball as it were. Martinez still should’ve been out on a 2nd for kicking the ball away. Yellow is yellow.
4: We have been missing the dynamic and creative Thiago we have grown accustomed to. He showed up in the 2nd half. He stopped drifting out wide & got involved centrally in space. We have depth now so we’re not asking him to put the team on his back but he needs to keep playing like he did today in the 2nd half.
5: Those were two of the most Philly goals we will ever see. Both were against the run of play, both were…dubious in nature. On the first, the ball appeared to go out of play in the build up and the second was off a foul throw. They got under our skin, as they do, and got the brief momentum they needed to flip the game.

The one where we can score with Jamal and Brad can do it all
Monday Apr 08, 2024
Monday Apr 08, 2024
On this episode we discuss
🖐️Takes
🔑low-key MOM
👟Jason Longshore's double duty
😏Natural disasters, other than Chelsea
1: Considering how well we’ve been performing defensively, it’s really frustrating to give up a goal in that manner. The penalty is soft but the opportunity comes from our own error.
2: Both teams created as many opportunities for the other as they did for themselves. NYC got a little fortunate with their goal. We provided everything but the finish for the majority of the match.
3: We were missing GG’s frame to help get it on frame. On top of being a great goal scorer, his strength and hold up play has also been key. He’s also our best aerial threat we’ve maybe ever had and we missed that.
4: He’s big, he’s bald he can f-ing do it all. It’s been a little while since we’ve had Brad be so key both defensively and offensively. He’s done all that’s been asked of him and then some.
5: Were Rios’ and Firmino's legs broken? Didn’t agree with Etienne at the 9. He did have his opportunity to win not only the game but possibly more minutes, but for some reason he heads it away from goal instead of directly into net. He continues to be what he’s been.

5Aside Women Footie Forum Pt1
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
Thursday Apr 04, 2024
On this week's 5Aside we're talking the history and significance of the She Believe's Cup as and the history and growth of the women's game across the globe.
Huge thank you to Angel Whitworth (FootieMob Board Member and Capo) and Shannon Celeste (All Stripes Board Member) for joining the show and sharing their perspectives, knowledge and experiences.
Atlanta, the USA and really the whole world are in an important and unprecedented moment in the growth of the women's game. It's incredible to see how much progress has been made but there is still so much more work to do. Progress doesn't happen in a vacuum. It takes work, and sacrifice and it's important for all of us to continue to show and up support all of these incredible women across the sporting landscape. This is bigger than football.

1: The first half looked like a match after an intl break. TBF a lot of the matches this weekend did. Attacking ideas were there, we just weren’t quite incisive enough for most of the first 45. There was more opportunity for us to counter off of their direct play.
2: All that being said, ball retention in the opposition half was very good. All Chicago was interested in was counters and direct balls. Ironically enough two of our goals came off direct play. We continue to score in a variety of ways.
3: We’ve got a back up to back up our back up plan. Jamal is a proper back up striker. That’s massive for us given some of the injury problems GG has and his international duty. Great finisher with great instincts.
4: This was the game Noah Cobb needed and he did not put a foot wrong. We were pretty dominant throughout but he had just enough to do. He’s had really tough matches so this should be a confidence builder for him.
5: Somehow, someway, we’ve got to replicate these home performances on the road. The Benz is becoming a fortress again. Great. Home points are not enough. Hopefully we can get three at whatever field NYCFC find to play on next week.

1: We looked really competent in the first 30 minutes. We played with a lot of energy and the composure match. Considering all the absences, our defensive composure was something to be pleased with. Unfortunately it all fell apart after the first goal.
2: Both teams' identities were on full display. We continued to play out the back 100% of the time and Toronto relied on their counter pressure and turning us over, which to be fair we greatly aided them in. They executed their game perfectly and we failed ours miserably.
3: As expected, our attack was lacking. Firmino, the magic man, was the invisible man tonight. Saba was really the only player finding himself in dangerous positions until Rios and Mosquera entered. Would’ve preferred a triple sub made with Xande.
4: On a couple positive attacking notes, Brooks’ service into the box is on another level this year. It was frustrating to see us not utilize the wings more when clearly nothing was happening centrally via combination and link up play. Mosquera still looks dangerous and Rios looked like he will be valuable.
5: It’s not going to show on the player ratings because of the two goals conceded but Brad still looks very good. He made some great saves tonight and the loss isn’t on him.

1: We’re not well versed in the dark arts but we’ve a read a book or two on the matter. That was a different kind of win. It was gritty and far from being dominant, but we were dominant in key moments.
2: We are 100% committed to playing out the back and we’re finally getting a taste of how that’s SUPPOSED to work. It’s high risk high reward and tonight it was executed really well.
3: The league might want to set its clocks to Saba time. We’ve had buzzing players before who pop up everywhere and appear to be dangerous but this guy IS dangerous. Underestimate him at your peril.
4: We mostly had all the benefits of an opposition high press and very little of the consequences. Orlando held a high line of confrontation but didn’t get very confrontational until around the 60th.
5: Really happy to see Giorgos be more involved in the build up. It shows him to be even more dangerous because of it. The ball to Saba was perfect. He’s much more than a big target forward.

1: We at least desired to counterattack tonight, but lacked execution. That’s on coaching. Our best open play opportunity came from Thiago after staying compact and winning the ball back and GOING.
2: In the first half there JNCO sized pockets of space that no one was running in to. That’s on the players. The movement off the ball in the second half improved. Hard to counter when the runs don’t happen.
3: Guzan isn’t losing his spot. He was great.
4: Defensively we look much more organized and compact. There were a couple scary moments in the first half but you can see that the chemistry and communication is building.
5: Maybe a small thing, but Gonzo did not look all that thrilled at the end. Good. I think he was really annoyed at the goal we conceded, even if it was a quality hit from a man who’s done it many times before. The mentality of not being satisfied is good.
