1: It’s a shame that this was the first playing experience at the Benz for Pedro. It looked like a covid match. Can’t blame the fans for not showing up. The tournament doesn’t feel meaningful and the product on the field isn’t good. It’s a bad showcase for the club. 

2: Having a hard time seeing Slisz as a DP level player. It just hasn’t been enough this season. Questionable decision making, questionable ball movement. So many questions, so few answers. 

3: Our offense may be anemic, but our defense is stout. Abram continues to show why he deserves minutes and with how thin we are offensively being able to keep fresh legs on the backline has kept us in matches we probably wouldn't be in otherwise. 

4: Saba sweet Saba. You are the shining light that we don’t deserve right now. He exhibits a skill that is simply on a higher level than the rest. But let’s be honest, even his skills represent the bare minimum of what it takes in this league to win. It’s just plain not good enough.

5:If Cohen is the heir apparent to Guzan his distribution has simply got to get better. Shot stopping is great, but unless we drastically change our playing style a keeper without confidence on the ball and in distribution will be a liability.

1: Columbus kinda does all the things pretty well and we kinda do some things sorta ok. TBF it was kinda sloppy disjointed from both sides but passing below 80% is pretty alarming. Tho everything is kind of alarming at this point. 

2: We do actually create enough chances to score. The chances aren’t coming in bunches but they are actually of high enough quality where we should be scoring and our season XG does back that up. We lack someone who’s explicit job it is to score. 

3: There’s a sort of inevitability to us conceding. Columbus barely celebrated when they scored. Thankfully they didn’t bury us when they had the chance. They felt better than us in open play but they weren’t as incisive as they usually are. 

4: That’s as quiet as it’s ever been in the Benz with the SG’s trying to send a message to the FO. Whether you agree with that tactic or not, it’s undeniable that when a product ain’t good, paying more for it doesn’t feel right. 

5: So after dozens of games and dozens and dozens of attempts we finally score off of a set piece goal. And then we did it again. It’s maddening we haven’t capitalized from more of these opportunities. When a team isn’t playing well it has to make the most of these opportunities and it’s about damn time.

😡Why is staying focused so hard?

 

1: Problems with re-starts, or in tonight’s case, just straight up starts, continue. It doesn’t make sense. It’s never going to make sense. How do we fix it?

2: The team waking up after going down a goal is nothing new, but that was the best response to conceding we’ve seen all season in the first half. Not only did we equalize but we dominated the game without dominating possession. Rob deserves a lot of credit for this.  

3: Unfortunately RSL woke up next. It was unlikely that we were going to get anything out of this match. RSL is a shield competing team and they eventually showed why. No disrespect but we’re rolling with mostly depth players. It’s difficult to analyze this team until post transfer window. 

4: We hate to quote Alexi Lalas but “set pieces, set pieces, set pieces”. 

5: So what trophy do they give out for best business done? The club is gonna net north of 50 million this summer but what does that net the fans? It’s great business but money has never been an issue. It’s another big window & Garth & Boca have got to get it right and show that we’re capable of more than just good business on the books.

🇺🇸 USA losing in a couple ways

1: Fortune was unfortunate. With more time and development and the right pieces around him, he can be a real game changer. He’s got some real unpredictability to him and he’s not afraid to have a hit. 

2: Brooks getting back to form is great to see. His service has been much better. It’s a shame no one had the finishing touch to go with it. 

3: If you’re going to hold a higher line, you actually have to press. We did it last match, we didn’t this time. New England was too comfortable in our end. 

4: Double digit corners and we couldn’t even get a shot on target let alone an actual goal. We should be and need to be getting more from set pieces. 

5: Muyumba’s liabilities are starting to outweigh his positive assets. He has great moments but he gives up possession too much and often at the worst possible times in the worst possible places.

1: The best first half we’ve seen all season and not just because of Saba resetting all of Miami’s clocks. The team was calm and composed in the middle of the pitch. Comfortable and fluid in our buildup. Good off the ball movement particularly within the final third. Less of the ball, more of the attack IN TRANSITION, very productive. Fancy that. 

2: Derek Williams is low key massive for this team. Everything feels more calm and assured. We saw him actively communicating when Miami was on the attack and also when we started our build up play….or a COUNTER ATTACK. We’ve been missing a conductor on the backline. 

3: That was Almada at his best. He could’ve scored if he’d be a little more direct and a little more selfish but that’s the level of play we got accustomed to and just haven’t seen. 

4: Muyumba was stirring the pot the whole game.  Dynamic and crafty on the ball. Good vision to see…good attacking runs in behind. Fancy that. The guy was pulling the strings all night. If there’s anything critical to say, at times he tried to do too much. 

5: In some ways this result is surprising, and in others it’s not. For reasons unknown, this team needs extra motivation to get going. Whether that comes from going down a goal, going down a man or in tonight’s case, going against the 🐐. The pressure of the game itself never seems to be enough motivation.
